Update on Wednesday, July 29, at 2:37 p.m.: City of Cedar Park Assistant Director of Communications & Engagement Daniel Sousa tells MySA that the gas leak has been capped and the incident is nearing completion.
Atmos Energy and Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) completed the necessary work to safely address the leak, Sousa says. Just before 1 p.m., crews began the gas restoration process, with power restoration expected to begin soon as well.
“Throughout the incident, six condominium units were evacuated as a precaution,” Sousa said. “No injuries were reported, and none of the evacuated residents requested assistance.”
Evacuations in Central Texas are underway after authorities discovered a gas leak in Cedar Park on Wednesday, July 29.
The Cedar Park Police Department announced in a Facebook post published at 9:20 a.m. that the leak is located at 1701 South Bell Boulevard, not far from Lakeline Park and the Brushy Creek Regional Trail. Emergency crews are on site.
“We are assisting Cedar Park Fire Department with evacuations in the area as crews work to get the leak fixed,” the police department said.
Police say this situation may cause traffic in the area, so residents are being urged to avoid the area and expect delays.
