EL PASO, Texas (KFOX 14, CBS4) — The Albuquerque Isotopes scored nine runs in the final two innings to defeat the El Paso Chihuahuas 16-10 at Southwest University Park on Thursday.
Albuquerque has now won the opening three games of the series and move to 52-53. El Paso falls to 42-60.
Dustin Harris gave the Chihuahuas the perfect start hitting a lead off home run in the bottom of the first inning. El Paso continued the fast start and racked up a 6-1 lead in the second inning. In the third, the Isotopes got back in it with a four run inning. Then in the eighth, Albuquerque scored five runs to take a 12-9 lead. They would pile on four more in the ninth to cap off the 16-10.
For El Paso, Jagger Haynes pitched 2.2 innings and gave up five earned runs. Johan Moreno took the loss after pitching 0.2 innings and giving up five earned runs.
Padres top prospect Ethan Salas made his first AAA start at catcher. Salas went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs.
Carlos Rodriguez went 4 for 5 with 2 RBIs.
For Albuquerque, Victor Juarez was awarded the win for pitching 2.0 innings and giving up just one run.
Charlie Condon went 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs.
El Paso and Albuquerque will face off on Friday at 6:35 pm for game four of the series.
