Nine Plano food establishments were closed during recent inspections after health inspectors found a rodent infestation, unsanitary conditions and other serious violations, according to data from the city compiled by the Star-Telegram.

The city of Plano scores restaurants on a 100-point system, with 100 considered a perfect score and 70 extremely poor. Around 176 inspections were conducted from July 12-25.

La Michoacana at 1409 Jupiter Road scored 54 on July 20. The grocery store was required to close, and its permit was temporarily suspended due to not having enough refrigeration equipment. La Michoacana was allowed to reopen after a July 21 follow-up inspection.

Saucy’s Thai and Pho at 4152 W. Spring Creek Parkway scored 67 on July 16. The inspector noted that employees weren’t washing their hands properly and the ice from a dirty ice machine wasn’t safe for human consumption. The restaurant was closed “due to lack of managerial control,” according to the report. The facility was allowed to reopen the next day after a follow-up inspection.

Jimmy’s Burger Catering at 3309 N. Central Expressway scored 66 on July 17. There was no soap or paper towels at the kitchen hand sinks, some storage racks were dirty and there were several pieces of unused equipment lying around. The inspector also found a roach crawling on the wall. The facility was closed for unsanitary conditions, but allowed to reopen after a follow-up inspection on July 24.

Kuppanna at 1301 Custer Road Suite 510 was closed July 20 after the inspector found more than 30 rodent droppings in the dry storage room. A live roach was also seen in the back prep area. The restaurant had to undergo pest control treatment and was able to reopen after a July 23 follow-up inspection.

Shanghai Dynasty at 1301 Custer Road Suite 450 was required to close July 21 after several fresh rodent droppings were found. Rodent droppings were observed at two follow-up inspections. The establishment was finally allowed to reopen on July 24. The inspector noted that some shelves appeared to be contaminated with urine and would need to be cleaned or replaced.

La Super Ice Cream at 1201 E. Parker Road was closed July 16 due to the underground grease trap being replaced without the city’s approval.

Cruzito’s Cocina Mexicana at 2300 14th St. recently changed ownership and didn’t meet the minimum requirements to obtain a permit during the July 15 inspection. Beef and chicken were held at an unsafe temperature, unlabeled food ingredients were found in the kitchen and the hot water was turned off at the three-compartment sink due to a leak. The inspector also noted multiple violations during a July 17 follow-up inspection. Another follow-up inspection was conducted July 20, and the restaurant was granted a permit and allowed to reopen.

Sunray Activity And Healthcare at 1301 Custer Road Suite 400 was temporarily closed July 21 due to a “multi-building rodent infestation.” The inspector found rodent droppings in the kitchen area that day and during a July 24 follow-up inspection. No droppings were seen during a second follow-up inspection on July 24, and the facility was allowed to reopen.

Target at 120 W. Parker Road had to temporarily close July 25. An inspector received an emergency notification that there was no running water. The facility was required to close until the water could be restored or temporary restrooms provided for employees.

Mash Dogs at 5248 Democracy Drive closed for cleanup July 24 after the hood fire suppression system was activated and fire retardant landed on surrounding surfaces. The kitchen had to be sanitized and all contaminated food and disposable containers thrown out.

Six other establishments also temporarily closed because of a water main break at Independence and Parker, according to the city’s report.

Another restaurant, D’Oh! Nuts at 3115 W. Parker Road, received a low score but was not closed. The facility scored 75 on July 22. A certified food manager wasn’t on site during the inspection, two gallons of liquid insecticide were found in the kitchen, and eight or nine live roaches were seen in the kitchen and dining areas. D’Oh! Nuts was required to schedule a follow-up inspection.

Three dead roaches were found in the dry storage area at El Noa Noa Tex-Mex Restaurant, located at 1915 N. Central Expressway, on July 22. The inspector also noticed black residue on the can opener blade. The restaurant received a high score of 90.
