EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office says investigators seized nearly 120 kilograms of cocaine with an estimated street value of $4 million during a targeted interdiction operation this week.
According to the sheriff’s office, members of the Gang and Narcotics Unit conducted the operation on July 29 involving a commercial tractor-trailer as part of an ongoing criminal investigation.
Investigators seized approximately 119.8 kilograms of cocaine, $7,000 in U.S. currency, and the tractor-trailer believed to have been used in connection with the suspected drug trafficking operation.
Officials estimated the cocaine’s street value at approximately $4 million.
The sheriff’s office said the seizure disrupted the movement of a large quantity of illegal narcotics and reflects the agency’s ongoing efforts to target drug trafficking organizations operating in and through the Borderland.
“This significant seizure disrupted the movement of a large quantity of illegal narcotics and underscores the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office’s commitment to aggressively targeting drug trafficking organizations operating in and through our region,” the agency said in a news release.
Authorities said the investigation remains active, and no additional details, including whether any arrests have been made, are being released at this time to protect the integrity of the case.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said it will continue working with local, state, and federal law enforcement partners to identify, investigate, and dismantle criminal organizations operating in the region.
