While Urban Outfitters plans its return to San Antonio inside one popular mall, another major retailer is set to make its debut in the Alamo City.
UNIQLO will land in San Antonio for the first time next year, according to a new filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Registration. The Japanese-born retailer with a focus on casual apparel and thermal technology is headed to North Star Mall with a 16,000-square-foot store, the filing laid out. This marks the brand’s first move into the 210 and an expansion into Central Texas, as it revealed its first location in the region – planned for Austin’s Barton Creek Square Mall – last fall.
The filing, registered on Thursday, July 30, gives a sneak peek into the new store. The project has a $2.3 million price tag and work is estimated to begin on March 22, 2027. While construction and completion dates are subject to change, the filing says work will wrap up by July of next year, just in time for summer shopping.
Meanwhile, North Star Mall is expecting more updates in 2026 and 2027. Urban Outfitters is set to return to the city inside the mall after closing at The Shops at La Cantera earlier this year. According to a filing, the new location comes with a $916,731 renovation budget. Saks Fifth Avenue closed its department store at North Star back in May following Chapter 11 bankruptcy, so that former space could be where Urban Outfitters sets up shop. Other plans for San Antonio’s oldest mall include a facelift for the Journey’s store and a $520,000 upgrade to Dillard’s.
