BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – This segment on The Three was paid for and sponsored by Destination Bryan.
The Games of Texas officially opens Friday with a ceremony at Legends Event Center, drawing amateur athletes from 17 regions across the state to Bryan-College Station for a weekend of competition.
Emberly Smith with the city of Bryan said organizers expect more than 10,000 patrons to visit the area over the course of the event.
Athletes and sports
Competitors range in age from 5 to 80 years old. Nine sports are featured: track and field, swimming, golf, pickleball, futsal, tennis, archery, horseshoe and ultimate frisbee.
Smith said the event is open to spectators, who can find schedules and venue information at taft.com.

Friday’s opening ceremony at Legends Event Center is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6 p.m., with pre-event activities for athletes running from 6 to 6:30 p.m. The ceremony begins at 7 p.m.
Smith said the ceremony is designed to recognize athletes and celebrate their preparation leading up to the state-level competition.
A fireworks show is scheduled for approximately 8:30 p.m.
