LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine welcomed its incoming 182-member class of 2030 during its annual white coat ceremony Friday at Buddy Holly Hall.
Members of the TTUHSC academic medical community helped students put on their first white coats, symbolizing their entry into the medical profession.
John DeToledo, dean of the TTUHSC School of Medicine, said the event marked a milestone for incoming students.
“This, for us, is a great celebration,” DeToledo said. “This is a time where the students come to join us. They’ve been preparing, they’ve been waiting, they’ve been anticipating for this day for years, and today is the culmination of that effort.”
Incoming medical student Lorren Cantu said she looks forward to the program and to serving patients.
“I am so excited to begin this journey,” Cantu said. “I know they have a great curriculum and I’m so excited to continue learning along with them. It is such an honor and a privilege to receive this education and I can’t wait to continue showing that through patient care and serving my community.”
Students also recited an adaptation of the Hippocratic Oath, pledging to lead lives of compassion, uprightness, and honor.
