Fort Worth police say they’re investigating an attempted kidnapping that occurred Thursday, July 30, at a Dollar Tree store in the West 7th District.

Fort Worth police say they’re investigating an attempted kidnapping that occurred Thursday morning at a Dollar Tree store in Montgomery Plaza by a man who was out on bond for a similar offense.
Around 12 police units were dispatched to 367 Carroll St. starting about 8 a.m. after someone reported that a man tried to grab an employee “and run away with her,” according to the 911 call sheet.

The suspect, 23-year-old Johntay Shawn Burgess, was arrested. He’s currently being held in the Tarrant County Jail on a $130,000 bond, according to court records.
“The suspect was previously arrested for a similar offense on 7/10/26 and is believed to be involved in an additional attempted kidnapping that occurred outside Salsa Limón, located at 925 University Drive, on 7/29/26,” a police spokesperson said in an email.
Burgess was charged with attempted kidnapping after the July 10 incident, but had had bonded out, according to court records.
In addition to kidnapping, Burgess faces charges of resisting arrest, indecent exposure and assault on a peace officer or judge in connection with the July 30 incident, court records show.
Police said they aren’t able to release further information at this time, but the investigation into the attempted kidnapping at Dollar Tree is ongoing.
