Class of ‘22 athletes granted fifth-year eligibility

  • August 1, 2026

DENVER, Colo. (KCBD) – Last year’s seniors, who had believed their college career was complete, are now eligible to compete in 2025-26, according to a newly released article on On3.

Friday afternoon, Judge Charlotte Sweeney, U.S. District Court of Colorado issued a blanket injunction allowing them a final season.

This comes weeks after the NCAA instituted a “five-for-five” rule allowing all athletes a five-year window. This has become a hot topic of discussion in Lubbock, especially in basketball regarding the potential return of Donovan Atwell (who had played in the NBA Summer League for the Chicago Bulls) and Darrion Williams, who left for NC State after the 2024-25 season. Both have made social media posts in Lubbock in the last few days.

The ruling, however, extends to all other sports including football players not taken in the 2026 NFL Draft.
