UVALDE, Texas – Uvalde County deputies were assisting Texas Parks and Wildlife Department officers with a drowning on the Nueces River near Cooksey Dam.
According to a warning posted on Facebook by Uvalde County Sheriff Ruben Nolasco, he urged residents to use caution while swimming in the river, saying it can be “unpredictable” and that “currents, sudden changes in water level, and hidden hazards can make swimming more dangerous than it looks.”
“Uvalde County Deputies are currently assisting TPWD with a drowning that just occurred on the Nueces River by Cooksey Dam,” Nolasco wrote.
Nolasco also shared safety reminders, including: “Never swim alone,” “Keep an eye on kids at all times,” and “Avoid swimming after heavy rain or when water looks rough.”
