Demonstrators are preparing to make their voices heard this weekend. Thousands of people across the nation are planning to show out for the No Kings protest.
Demonstrators say they are standing up to what they call President Trump’s authoritarian actions.
The protest is organized by the 5051 movement. The No King’s protest on Oct. 18 at Travis Park is expected to break records according to San Antonio’s 5051 head Alex Svehla.
The movement preaches that America has no kings. While President Trump has jokingly stated he may run for a third term, Svehla says a third term is no joking matter.
“We don’t consider it a joke at all because no other President has ever made any type of comment like this before.”
The protest organizer says they are protesting to protect America’s rights.
“Anything that pushes against the constitution, like his attacks on the media, having the White House and other government offices restrict media access,” Svehla said.
The No King’s protest will be anchored at Travis Park Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m.
“It’s not just about being angry,” Svehla said. “We’re going to have about 20 organizations out tabling and engaging with the crowd. There are a lot of different organizations to meet.”
SAPD will be in attendance to ensure crowd safety.
The San Antonio Police Department is aware of a planned protest scheduled for October 18th. We remain committed to protecting the constitutional rights of individuals and groups to conduct peaceful and lawful demonstrations. SAPD will have a police presence for the safety of those peacefully protesting.
