AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – The San Antonio Missions scored two runs in the 11th inning to defeat the Amarillo Sod Poodles 7-5 on Friday night at HODGETOWN, snapping Amarillo’s win streak on Dino Night.
Back-and-forth early
San Antonio scored first before the Sod Poodles responded in the bottom of the first. Cristofer Torin scored on a Jansel Luis groundout to tie the game, and Ben McLaughlin followed with a hit through the gap to left-center to score Angel Ortiz and give Amarillo a 2-1 lead.
The Missions tied the game in the fourth when Ryan Jackson hit a solo home run over Ortiz in center field.
Late-inning drama
The game remained tied until the seventh, when Brandon Karpathios hit a grounder to left that rolled past Luis, scoring a run to give San Antonio a 4-3 lead.
Amarillo answered in the ninth. Alberto Barriga hit a ball off the wall, and the Missions were unable to recover it in time, allowing McLaughlin to score from first and tie the game at 4-4.
Both teams scored in the 10th to push the game to 5-5. San Antonio added two runs in the 11th to close out the 7-5 victory.
