LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Unofficial results from the Lubbock City Council District 4 runoff show Tim Green winning with 61 percent of the vote over Gary Boren, who received 39 percent. District 4 covers parts of central and south Lubbock.
“I wanna grow the city and produce more revenue from outside sources,” Green said Saturday evening. “So that I can give it back, so that we can give it back to the citizens and lower their property tax rate.”
The results remain unofficial. The City Council will canvass and certify the results at its next meeting. The winner will serve out Brayden Rose’s term through 2028. Rose announced in March he would leave council, to spend more time taking care of his family, including his young son.
No candidate won a majority of the vote in June’s special election, leading to tonight’s runoff. In the five-person race, Green secured 47 percent, Boren 38 percent.
2,613 people voted in the June race. In the August 1 runoff, 3,094 voters cast a ballot; Green drew 1,881 votes, Boren 1,213.
