Deputies are investigating a shooting by the intersection of Colorado 85 and Las Vegas Street believed to have started as a road rage incident Monday morning, according to a news release by the El Paso Sheriff’s Office.
The incident prompted the jail to temporarily be placed on lockdown when the victim, who was shot in the head with a pepper-ball gun, entered the lobby after he was wounded.
Investigators determined the suspect rode a bike from a wooded area into the victim’s path, forcing the victim to suddenly brake, according to the release. He then shot at the vehicle with the weapon and was not found by deputies.
No other details were provided, and it is unclear whether the incident was random or targeted.
The victim was taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury. The suspect is described as an approximately 50-year-old male with a beard and glasses, who was wearing a white shirt and gray shorts and riding a mountain bike.
