Odem ISD opens new gym facility ahead of school year, expanding space for students and community

Odem ISD celebrated the opening of its new gym, a facility designed for athletics, school events and community gatherings while adding upgraded spaces for students.

SAN PATRICIO COUNTY, Texas — Students, staff and community members in Odem are celebrating a major addition to the district just before the start of the new school year.

Odem ISD officially opened its new gym facility, giving students a modern space for athletic events, school activities and community gatherings. District leaders say the building will serve as more than just a place for sports, providing a venue for celebrations, graduations, ceremonies and other important events throughout the year.

The new facility includes upgraded amenities designed to better support students and staff. The project adds new locker rooms for junior high students, improved bathrooms and additional space to accommodate the needs of the growing district.

While the new building is a major milestone, district leaders say the success of the project came from the teamwork and planning behind it.

Odem ISD Superintendent Yolanda Carr said the district focused on balancing needs and wants throughout the process to make sure the project stayed within budget.

“We weighed our wants and our needs, and fortunately we were able to partner with Pfluger Architects and Fulton Construction to provide a project for us that came in at budget or under,” Carr said. “We were able to do the rest of the items that we were going to do because we had enough money to do those.”

Carr said the project represents more than a new gym. She believes it reflects the support and collaboration of the entire community that helped make the vision a reality.

The gym opening comes as Odem ISD prepares for another school year, with district leaders focused on creating a welcoming environment for students returning to campus.

Officials say the new facility will provide opportunities for students, families and the community for years to come, serving as a central gathering place for Odem ISD events and celebrations.
