GARLAND, Texas — The Garland Police Department stepped up its traffic enforcement over the second half of July, leading to more than 1,200 citations being issued for speeding, officials said.
According to the department, between July 18 and Aug. 2, police issued 1,224 tickets for speeding. The operation was done in concert with the Texas Department of Transportation.
Police say officers focused efforts on known hotspots for speeding and high-traffic areas.
“Garland Police encourage residents and visitors to slow down every time they get behind the wheel,” the department said in a statement. “Speeding increases the likelihood of serious crashes and puts everyone on the road at risk.”
According to TxDOT, speeding is the top contributing factor in crashes in Texas, and makes up about one-third of traffic fatalities across the state. More than 150,000 speed-related crashes happened in 2025 in Texas, with 1,247 people killed and 5,652 people seriously injured.
