It’s been roughly 24 hours since a San Antonio AMBER Alert ended following the tragic discovery of a 2-year-old girl. After Bexar County officials confirmed the death of Aryana Trevino Martinez, additional details about the events leading up to her disappearance have been released.

Here’s what we know so far.

Local nonprofit Eagles Flight Advocacy & Outreach (EFAO), which describes its mission as supporting South Texas families in crisis, is hosting a vigil for Aryana alongside Last Chance Ministries, according to its social media page. The event will be held on Tuesday, August 4, at 4902 Belle Ellen Drive, according to a post. It begins at 8 p.m. and should end by 9 p.m., CEO of EFAO, Pamela Allen, told MySA over email.

The public is invited, Allen says. Attendees are being asked to bring a candle if they can. Folks should avoid bringing balloons.

“If the public would like to bless the family monetarily, we can collect and get to the family to cover expenses,” Allen said.

Authorities told MySA on Monday, August 3, that the family is “cooperative” while an investigation is underway.

The San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) posted on Facebook on Sunday, August 2, at 10:06 p.m., that Aryana had vanished from the 4700 Block of Allegheny Drive. The area is near Balcones Heights. At the time, authorities urged anyone who saw the toddler to contact 911.

SAPD issued an AMBER Alert for Aryana earlier that Sunday at 7:45 p.m., according to the Texas Department of Public Safety’s website. In the flyer, the 2-year-old was described as being last seen wearing a black top and leopard pants. 

Roughly two hours later, SAPD held a news conference about Aryana’s disappearance and the AMBER Alert underway for her, according to an email obtained by MySA. The conference took place at Glenoaks Elementary School, one mile from the 4700 block of Allegheny Drive.

Preliminary information from SAPD states that officers responded to a report of a missing endangered person at approximately 8 p.m. on Sunday. 

Officers spoke with Aryana’s relatives, who said the toddler had wandered off the property, according to the SAPD report. Authorities dispatched a search quadrant and multiple resources to the area.

Police shared a social media update around 6:35 a.m. on Monday, August 3, stating that Aryana was found in a brushy area near the address where she was reported missing. The post did not include additional details about the location.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that Aryana was pronounced dead at 12:12 a.m. Monday. Officials told MySA that the cause of death is pending further examination and that the office was not authorized to release the exact location where Aryana’s body was found.

SAPD told MySA on Tuesday morning that no further information is available for release and that an investigation is active and ongoing.
