SAN ANTONIO – Governor Greg Abbott announced more than $6.1 million in Funds for Veterans’ Assistance grants for 24 organizations serving veterans in the San Antonio and South-Central Texas region on Tuesday.

The $6,187,000 in funding, administered through the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) will help provide financial assistance and support services to eligible veterans and their families. The grants are expected to serve an estimated 103,749 veterans across the region.

“Texas will always honor the sacrifices made by the brave men and women who answered the call to serve,” Abbott said. “These grants will help veterans in the San Antonio and South-Central Texas regions access the services they need to thrive. We will never forget our veterans, their families and their service to our state and country.”

The funding will support a variety of programs, including emergency financial assistance, housing assistance, transportation, clinical counseling, veterans treatment courts and services for homeless veterans. The FVA grant recipients and their services include:

Texas Veterans Commission Chairwoman and Navy veteran Laura Koerner said the funding will help strengthen services for veterans across the region.

“I want to sincerely thank each of our award recipients for serving our veterans,” Koerner said in a statement. “Your organizations are recognized for making a difference in the lives of those who served.”

The grants are part of the Texas Veterans Commission’s Grants Across Texas Tour. In May, the commission approved more than $40.8 million in grants for 160 organizations across the state.

Since 2009, the Funds for Veterans’ Assistance program has awarded more than $400 million through 1,790 grants to organizations providing services such as financial assistance, housing, transportation, counseling, legal aid, and family support for veterans.
