It’s a testament to the popularity of Houston singer-rapper Don Toliver that he’s returning to the Toyota Center stage after just performing there in May. His smooth, melodic, semi-trap style and his collaborations with the likes of Travis Scott and Doja Cat have turned him into a major star. He’s on the road promoting his most recent album, “Octane.”

Morgan Freeman’s Symphonic Blues Experience
Actor Morgan Freeman may be best known for his roles in “The Shawshank Redemption” and “Seven” but his latest role as an enthusiastic supporter of the blues seems to take up much of his time these days. With the Symphonic Blues Experience, he acts as a narrator and tour guide through the uniquely American style as performed by a six-piece band and a symphony orchestra.

‘Stokely in Houston: Black Power, Pan Africanism and the Diasporic Imagination’

The late ’60s-era Black activist Stokely Carmichael, who changed his name to Kwame Ture, came to Houston to speak in 1967. That visit is the subject of a Menil Collection lecture being held by professor and artist Dr. Lindsay Gary who will relate Carmichael’s ideas to Pan-Africanism and the Civil Rights movement.

The presence of Houston’s favorite ska band on a stage means the audience is in for a good time. The group is back after a European summer tour with Saturday’s show at the Continental Club being billed as a homecoming party. So you can expect this performance to be extra festive.

Popular Galveston comedian Bill Engvall had retired in 2022 but, boy, that didn’t last long. He even appeared in fellow comedian Mo Amer’s Houston-set Netflix series “Mo.” Now, he’s back on tour and bringing his “Here’s Your Sign, It Wasn’t My Time” tour to his hometown on Saturday.
