TULIA, Texas (KVII) — The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a house explosion in Tulia that injured at least one person.

Tulia Volunteer Fire Department Chief Johnny Shelburne said the explosion happened at approximately 1:30 a.m. Tuesday at 508 S. Austin Avenue. The building appeared to be a four-unit residence.

Five people were inside at the time of the explosion. One person was transported to a burn unit in Lubbock. No additional information about the person’s condition was immediately available.

First National Bank of Tulia identified Derek Fudge as one of those affected by the fire.

“Our hearts are with Derek Fudge after the devastating fire,” the bank said. “Derek had just moved into his own place and tragically lost everything.”

A fund was established for Fudge at First National Bank in Tulia. Donations can be made at any First National Bank branch or the Swisher County Courthouse.

The cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
