A San Antonio Police Department Academy cadet was hospitalized Tuesday after accidentally shooting himself in the foot during firearms training, police said.
The incident occurred at the SAPD Training Academy in the 12200 block of Southeast Loop 410 Access Road, near Texas A&M University-San Antonio.
Police said the cadet, a man in his 30s, suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the foot and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
FOX 29 reported the cadet’s weapon discharged accidentally. SAPD is investigating the shooting.
The incident occurred at the department’s 165-acre Training Academy, where recruits complete thousands of hours of instruction before becoming San Antonio police officers.
No other injuries were reported.
