Fall practice is underway for the No. 4 Texas Longhorns. UT officially kicked off preparations for the 2026 season under under a hot Austin sun. The Longhorns have exactly a month to prepare for the season opener against Texas State on Sept. 5 at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
While coaches have an idea of the Longhorns depth chart after spring drills, the true position battles happen over the next few weeks. There are multiple positions that could change between now and the start of the season.
Laurence Seymore is battling for the starting spot with Jaydon Chatman and Devin Coleman at left guard. Starting safety opposite Jelani McDonald is still in play, with Kobe Black and Derek Williams Jr. fighting for the starting spot.
Newcomers Raleek Brown and Hollywood Smothers will hold an epic duel this fall to see which highly regarded transfer will be the starting running back. And there are a lot of possibilities at linebacker.
