BELLVILLE, Texas (KBTX) – An Austin County Sheriff’s deputy who was run over during a traffic stop earlier this year is now recovering at home, though her road to full recovery remains long.
The Austin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Wednesday that Deputy Alyssa Lopez continues to undergo weekly doctor visits and is scheduled for surgery in the near future. Deputy Lopez sustained serious injuries on April 24, 2026, when she was run over by a driver fleeing a traffic stop.
Following the incident, law enforcement launched a manhunt and arrested Jartaviuss Jaquan Fletcher, 27, of Eagle Lake, Texas, later that same day.
Fletcher remains in custody and is charged with Aggravated Assault of a Public Servant, Evading Arrest, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Resisting Arrest.
Online jail records show Fletcher was also arrested in 2020 and booked into the Brazos County Detention Center on an Aggravated Robbery charge. In that case, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to six years probation and community service.

Deputy Lopez has served in law enforcement for over six years and was commissioned with the Austin County Sheriff’s Office in January 2026, just months before the life-altering incident.
