In most cases, shoppers do not need to provide a sales tax exemption certificate to receive the tax-free benefit.

The exemption applies only to qualifying items purchased during the designated weekend. Purchases made before Aug. 7 or after midnight Aug. 9 do not qualify, and Texas does not offer refunds for taxes paid on items bought outside the holiday period.

Shoppers are advised to confirm that items meet the tax-free requirements, including price limits for eligible purchases.
