SAN ANTONIO – City Council District 1 is set to hand out free backpacks and school supplies as part of its annual Back-to-School Bash aimed at helping families prepare for the 2026-2027 school year.
District 1 Councilwoman Dr. Sukh Kaur and the District 1 Office will host the fourth annual event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8, at Edison High School, 701 Santa Monica St., 78212.
Organizers said the bash will provide free backpacks, school supplies, resources and services with support from community organizations and nonprofits, including AAA, Garver USA, H-E-B, Methodist Hospital, the San Antonio Apartment Association and SAWS.
Texas Sen. José Menendez and Bexar County Commissioner Justin Rodriguez are also scheduled to attend.
Councilmember Kaur will be available for media interviews between 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. during the event.
