Sign on White Rock Lake Trail by Steve Sills.

The closed portion of the White Rock Lake Trail and Garland Road is expected to reopen by Friday, Aug. 7.

Dallas Water Utilities (DWU) has completed construction to grout an abandoned 36-inch wastewater pipeline adjacent to Garland Road and the White Rock Lake Trail between E. Lawther Drive and San Rafael Drive.

Earlier this year, a sinkhole was discovered near the trail above the abandoned pipeline. According to DWU, the grouting serves as a long-term solution to reduce the risk of future sinkholes.

Construction began the week of June 15 as a collaborative effort between DWU, the Dallas Park and Recreation Department, the Transportation Department and the Department of Public Works.
