LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A Lubbock woman is hospitalized with severe injuries and pleading for the community’s help after an out-of-control driver crashed into her home, leaving her trapped in the wreckage.
Antionette White was watching television at her home in the Parkway-Cherrypoint neighborhood with her 7-month-old dog, Brett, when police say 40-year-old Dorthia Robinson lost control of her vehicle and slammed into the residence.
White describes the terrifying moments following the impact.
“Everything was black, it was just nothing,” White said. “Everything was invisible. I heard my dog bark, I couldn’t see what was in front of me. Everything disappeared again, everything was white, like snow. I was questioning myself on why it was snowing in the middle of summer. Then the next thing I know, I’m looking at a tire.”
White suffered a broken leg and a broken right clavicle in the crash. While she is currently recovering at University Medical Center (UMC), she will soon be moving to South Plains Rehab to relearn how to move. White credits the UMC hospital staff as one of her biggest motivations to keep pushing forward.
However, the physical injuries are only a fraction of the heartbreak White is currently enduring.
Since the crash, her 7-month-old long-hair German Shepherd, Brett, has been missing. White is deeply worried about his whereabouts and safety.
To make matters worse, White’s damaged home has already been targeted by squatters, who broke windows to gain entry while she has been confined to a hospital bed.
This string of devastating events comes after White recently entered remission from cancer, and while she is still grieving the loss of both of her children. Confronted with a long road to recovery and an uncertain future for her home, White is turning to the Lubbock community.
“I’ve struggled alone and I can’t struggle alone anymore,” White said. “I need any and everything. I normally don’t ask for help from anyone. But God is making it to where I can ask for help from any and everyone.”
