COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – Texas and Texas A&M will meet again on Nov. 27 in College Station, with the Aggies seeking their first win over the Longhorns since 2010.
The Lone Star Showdown rivalry was renewed two years ago, and both matchups have carried SEC Championship Game implications. Texas has won each of the last two meetings, both times eliminating A&M from SEC title game contention.
High stakes expected again in 2026
Both programs are positioned for strong seasons. Texas has reached the College Football Playoff semifinals twice in the past three years and has already appeared in an SEC Championship Game despite joining the conference only two years ago.
Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said the recent matchups have carried significant weight.
“The last two years, those have been great games that have mattered,” Sarkisian said. “Two years ago, the winner of that game goes to the SEC Championship. Last year, we were fighting for what we felt like was our playoff lives. They were an undefeated team, so there were some great moments.”
Players describe rivalry’s intensity
Texas quarterback Arch Manning has gotten a lot of attention in his time in Austin. The veteran quarterback matchup of Arch vs. Marcel Reed will likely be a big storyline in late November.
“A&M, they have a bunch of good players, a great coach. That atmosphere is the real deal,” Manning said. “We’re always excited for that rivalry game. We’re pumped up.
Texas defensive end Colin Simmons said the rivalry holds meaning beyond the field.
“It’s a good rivalry. It’s very big for our culture and our fans,” Simmons said. “Texas A&M have a great team every year. Every year I played them, they done had a great team.”
Texas cornerback Trevor Goosby said both venues have delivered memorable atmospheres.
“Playing in the game is electric,” Goosby said. “Both atmospheres — Kyle Field the first year and then DKR last year. Both probably top three most electric crowds I’ve ever played in front of.”
The Nov. 27 Black Friday matchup will be played at Kyle Field in College Station.
