The Padres come into Friday night’s opener following a 5-1 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday to close out their series. Bradgley Rodriguez improved to 3-2 on the mound after throwing for two innings and striking out one batter. Luis Rengifo led the team at the plate, going 3-for-5 to get himself on base multiple times.
The Astros’ most recent game was played on Wednesday night against the Blue Jays and resulted in a narrow 5-4 loss, allowing Toronto to take the series win. Bennett Sousa dropped earned his first loss of the season after giving up the game-winning run in the ninth inning. Jose Altuve hit his 13th homer of the season in the third, but the team ultimately game up short.
Ronel Blanco will get the start for Houston on Friday night while the Padres will give the ball to Robbie Ray. Blanco is currently 0-1 with an ERA of 7.36 and Ray is 10-6 with an ERA of 3.08.
