EL PASO, Texas (KFOX 14, CBS4) — Alex Mendez scored a long-range goal to lead El Paso Locomotive FC to a 1-0 victory over Monterey Bay FC at Southwest University Park on Wednesday.
The Locos remain in eighth place in the USL Championship Western Conference on 25 points. Monterey Bay sits in 12th with only 15 points.
El Paso started fast. In the first half, the Locos sent wave after wave of attack at the Monterey back line. Monterey Bay keeper Jacob Jackson made multiple early saves to keep the match level. In the 30th minute, Alex Mendez unleashed a driven shot from outside the box into the bottom corner to give El Paso a 1-0 lead. Despite more goal scoring opportunities, this was the lone goal of the match.
The Locos have a quick turnaround and will hit the road to face Oakland Roots on Saturday.
