Texas Tech’s tumultuous football offseason will be the subject of a new television series.
Paramount+ announced earlier this summer that it’s making a docuseries about what it calls one of the “most consequential offseasons in the history of the sport.” The series is produced by Skydance Sports and comes from director and showrunner Micah Brown, who previously made “Coach Prime” and “Untold: Sign Stealer.”
Cameras have been rolling on the four-episode docuseries since January, which is right at the time Brendan Sorsby transferred to the program from Cincinnati. Only a few short months later, Sorsby was embroiled in a gambling scandal.

While there’s no explicit mention of Sorsby in the Paramount+ announcement, the show will follow Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire as he “builds a new team identity during a demanding offseason.”
“This has proven to be a landscape-altering offseason and we’ve been lucky to have a front row seat,” said Greg Groggel, senior vice president of unscripted at Skydance Sports, in a press release. “This series will present fans and viewers with an unprecedented window into everything that is defining college football today.”

In April, Sorbsy entered a residential treatment program for gambling addiction after placing what ESPN called “thousands of online bets on a variety of sports via a gambling app, which jeopardizes his eligibility.”
A few weeks later in mid-May, the NCAA ruled Sorbsy ineligible due to his gambling, which also included Indiana football games when he was a member of the team. Later that month, the NCAA denied Sorsby’s request to be reinstated.
In early June, Sorsby received an injunction from a Fort Worth judge that would’ve allowed him to play after serving only a two-game suspension. However, the backlash from the Big 12 and larger sports world led Texas Tech to part ways with the quarterback.
Not long after that, Sorsby announced his intentions to enter the NFL Supplemental Draft. Just over a week later, the NFL announced it would not be holding the supplemental draft this year.
In late June, Sorsby said that he will not sue the NFL Players Association and will instead shift his focus to the 2027 NFL Draft.

The show is expected to premiere before this year’s college football season starts.
Texas Tech opens its season at home against Abilene Christian on Sept. 5. The Red Raiders end their season at home against TCU on Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 26).
