SAN ANTONIO – Tx — It’s been four days since 2-year-old Aryanna Trevino Martinez was found unresponsive Monday. Aryanna’s memorial service was yesterday. Neighbors are demanding answers about overgrown vegetation that has not been cleared near the creek where the 2-year-old was found.
Anna Santellam lives nearby. She brought her granddaughters to Aryanna’s memorial to pray for the young girl and her family.
“You’d think they would’ve been out here the next day right,” Santellam said. “I don’t know what the hold up is. What are they waiting for? Another accident?”
The 2-year-old was at the center of an Amber Alert after investigators said she wandered away from her home on Alleghany Dr, walked nearly 22 minutes to the greenway on Belle Ellen Dr, where weeds stand more than 6 ft. tall.
According to the city’s public works department the area was last mowed in June and is maintained on a quarterly schedule.
“There is no reason for that,” Santellam said. This should be maintained the way we have to maintain our yards. You know, bi-weekly, monthly.”
The city says crews are scheduled to come out in September to cut vegetation near the creek on Belle Ellen Dr.
