CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Corpus Christi Mayor Paulette Guajardo shared her reaction Friday night following the conclusion of the removal hearing that resulted in a 30-day suspension and reprimand.

Guajardo said she is feeling “a great sense of gratefulness to the residents of the City of Corpus Christi.”

She said she is grateful for the support she has received from Corpus Christi residents and remains hopeful the city can move forward together.

“I want to thank them for the messages, the calls, the encouragement – just so much support that has come through in such a difficult time,” she said. “I’m first and foremost just very grateful but serving as mayor is about protecting the city and fighting for its future and honoring the trust of the people who elected me. I remain very hopeful that we’re going to move forward now and with dignity, restore confidence in our city and bring our community back together around what matters the most, and that’s the people of Corpus Christi and the future that we all share.”

Guajardo confirmed the suspension will not affect her decision to run for re-election. She said she will run for a final term as mayor, with a focus on securing long-term water sources.

Guajardo also said it is unclear when the 30-day suspension will begin, but she expects to learn more details soon.

In a message to council members, Guajardo said, “My focus, again, is to bring us together and for this council to hopefully unite and work towards what’s important and all the issues that we have right now that we must address as a team.”
