In late July, all seven BTS members announced that they would not submit “ARIRANG” for consideration at the 2027 Grammy Awards, saying they hope music can be appreciated on its own merits rather than divided by region or language. The decision came shortly after the Recording Academy introduced a new Best Asian Pop Music Performance category.

Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. publicly responded, saying he was saddened by the decision while defending the new category as a way to recognize and celebrate Asian pop artists.
