SAN ANTONIO – Police are investigating after a man was found with a gunshot wound to the head just west of downtown.
Around 7:15 pm on Saturday, police were called to the scene of a reported shooting in Progress near the corner of West Poplar Street and Northwest 26th Street.
Police officers at the scene said that the victim had been on the phone with a friend when the friend reportedly heard a gunshot through the phone.
The friend then called police and rushed to the victim’s residence to flag officers down.
Officers forced entry into the home, located the victim, and rushed to perform life-saving measures. The victim was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
Investigators say that it remains too early to tell if the shooting was done by somebody else, by accident, or as a result of an attempted suicide.
Two people were detained at the scene for questioning
