DALLAS, Texas (KWTX) – A Dallas ISD police officer was shot Thursday morning by an individual he was trying to help in the parking lot of a Walmart-Sam’s Club, according to KTVT.
The shooting happened in a parking lot off the LBJ Freeway near Midway Road around 11 a.m.
The officer, identified by Dallas ISD police as Justin Jones, was seriously wounded and taken to Parkland Hospital for care, according to KTVT. Reporter JD Miles reported the officer is expected to survive.

According to Dallas ISD, Jones was flagged down to help an individual on highway I-635. Officer Jones reportedly picked up the person and took them to the Sam’s Club parking lot to get them to safety.
The person being helped then fired a weapon, striking officer Jones in the torso, according to KTVT.
Police immediately swarmed the area and searched a nearby neighborhood for the shooter.
Fox 4 Dallas-Fort Worth is reporting the suspect was taken into custody.
There is no more information at this time. Police are on the scene.
