EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — As the Ysleta Independent School District returned to class Wednesday, one longtime educator marked a milestone of more than three decades in the classroom.
Nicole Tepsick, a third-grade teacher at Glen Cove Elementary School, is celebrating her 32nd year with YISD.
Tepsick is also a former YISD student, and she said her own experience as a shy third grader helped shape her path into teaching.
Tepsick said one of her teachers brought out the best in her, helped her fall in love with reading, and inspired her to become a teacher.
After graduating from UTEP, Tepsick returned to YISD because, she said, “that’s where it all started.”
She said her students are what keep her coming back each year.
“I love the children so much, their joy, the energy they have, wanting to learn, I don’t have children of my own, so when they ask me how many children do you have I say I have 22 children, they go what. I’m a teacher,” Tepsick said.
Tepsick also said that over the years, many former students have returned to thank her for the impact she has had on their lives.
