The Bucs turn to David McHugh to take over for Justen Evans after an early playoff exit last year.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Miller Bucs are under new leadership for the first time in a decade, but can they continue their winning ways?
David McHugh comes over from Bishop as he replaces Justen Evans, who left Miller for a job in Fenton after becoming the winningest coach in Bucs history record wise.
Miller made the playoffs last season with a young team, but didn’t live up to their own high standards at 4-7 and a first round exit. Enter McHugh, who might just be the new voice the Bucs need as they drop down to a tough Class 4A district that includes the likes of Calallen and Port Lavaca Calhoun.
This story continues below.
“We’re prepping to play physical football and and I think that at the 4A level a lot of times the more physical team wins,” McHugh said. “We’re going to have to get tested in the trenches and I think that we’re going to answer those questions.”
“Everybody loves (McHugh). He’s easy to talk to and if anything’s wrong, we go talk to him,” senior WR/DB Laythan Wilson said.
The Bucs are getting ready for that tough district slate with four non-district games against teams in higher classes including big Week One and Week Two games against Flour Bluff and Veterans Memorial, respectively.
