Today, August 9, is Whitney Houston’sbirthday. The singer, who died in February 2012, would have been 63.

To honor her birthday, Houston’s estate has partnered with Mattel for a special edition Barbie doll, reminiscent of Houston’s look in her 1987 “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” music video. But fans always want more, including more movies and behind-the-scenes footage of the star.

In an interview with The Associated Press, Houston’s longtime manager and sister-in-law, Pat Houston, gave insight into where things stand with a potential part two. Following the success of Michael and a sequel in the works, many wonder if the same is possible for The Bodyguard star.

“Whitney’s catalog is incredible and that voice is matchless. Of course there’s plenty of things that can be done, but you don’t want to do an overkill,” Pat said. “You don’t wanna oversaturate the industry without having purpose. It has to have purpose in order for us to put something out there or deliver something to you. But yes, different things come to the table all the time, but we’re cautious and careful.”

Houston’s biopic, I Wanna Dance with Somebody, was released in 2022. It stars Broadway sensation Naomi Ackie as Houston, showcasing her rise from a Church staple in New Jersey, to one of the most decorated singers of the century.

Pat manages Houston’s estate. Since her passing, there have been plenty of collaborations, including a fragrance, a MAC cosmetics line, merchandise, theater productions, and more.

2027 marks the 15th anniversary of Houston’s passing. It’s also the 35th anniversary of the release of The Bodyguard, and Pat says there are some things in the works to commemorate the blockbuster. “There are some things that we’re working on. Until the i’s are dotted and the t’s are crossed, I never like to say,” she told AP.
