Myrto Uzuni scored a hat trick and Austin FC recorded a convincing win over a Liga MX side in Leagues Cup for the second time in four days as it topped Puebla 3-0 Sunday at Q2 Stadium.
Uzuni recorded his hat trick in the match’s first 35 minutes, scoring on a brilliant free kick from 30 yards out in the fourth minute, finishing a 90-second, 27-pass Austin FC buildup from just outside the six-yard box in the seventh minute, then drilling a one-touch from the far corner of the box on a corner kick in the 34th.
It’s the second hat trick in club history, following Moussa Djitté recording one Sept. 14, 2022 against Real Salt Lake at Q2 Stadium.
Austin FC can advance to the knockout stage of the competition with a win or shootout win Thursday over Club América and some other helpful results. (Only four teams from each league qualify for the knockout stage.)
