While Democratic Senate candidate Representative James Talarico is still working to win over black Democratic voters, Republican candidate Attorney General Ken Paxton has recently been enjoying a surge of support within his party. Much of that support is coming from Republicans who were his political enemies.
As the Texas Scorecard recently pointed out, Paxton has recently been on a campaign tour across the state and was joined on that tour by members of the House of Representatives who played a key role in his impeachment. State Representatives Briscoe Cain, Jeff Leach, and Cody Vasut, who all served as impeachment managers, have all campaigned with Paxton recently, as has House Speaker Dustin Burrows, who voted for the impeachment of Paxton.
At a campaign event in Houston, conservative radio personality and Walton and Johnson show co-host Kenny Webster also spoke, and he says the unity we’ve seen recently behind Paxton is a sign of how seriously the GOP is taking this race. “With a lot of new people moving to this state, and a lot of new citizens coming to America, we can’t always take it for granted that Republicans are going to win every election,” he said.
Webster went on to point to left-wing radicalism as a major driver of this unity in the Texas GOP, hinting that the Republicans might not have the luxury of losing this time around. According to him: “Not everyone in the party loves Paxton, and not everyone in the party loves Dustin Burrows, but most of us agree that we’d prefer those guys to full-on communism.”
