Dallas police said they plan to hold a news conference Monday to show body camera and dashboard camera video footage from two unrelated officer-involved shootings that took place last week.
The department’s leadership also will provide updates on the investigations into the two Aug. 6 shootings that occurred 90 minutes and roughly 3 miles apart. The news conference is scheduled to take place at 4 p.m. at the Jack Evans Police Headquarters, according to a news release.
A Dallas Independent School District officer was injured in one of the shootings, which occurred at about 10:50 a.m. on Aug. 6 in the parking lot of a Sam’s Club on the 4100 block of Lyndon B. Johnson Freeway.
Officer Justin Jones, 39, was shot in the torso after driving a “man in crisis” to the parking lot. He underwent surgery at Parkland Memorial Hospital. As of Friday afternoon, Aug. 7, Jones remained in stable condition, DISD said in a statement. A suspect in that case was taken into custody.
About an hour and a half before that shooting, a DPD officer had fired his weapon after a suspect in a vehicle robbery led police on an almost 20-mile pursuit from Oak Cliff to North Dallas, Executive Assistant Chief Terrence Rhodes said at a news conference last week.
Rhodes said the officer fired his weapon as the suspect exited the vehicle in the 5800 block of Williamstown Road near the Melshire Estates neighborhood. The unidentified suspect, who was not injured, was taken into custody, he said. The officer was not injured in that incident.
A third unrelated officer-involved shooting occurred the morning of Aug. 7 in the 8500 block of Park Lane, marking the third officer-involved shooting in northern Dallas in less than 24 hours.
