Lookout, Buc-ee’s. Another famous Texas brand is ramping up its services to help fuel drivers heading out of the Alamo City. That’s right, the H-E-B on the easternmost edge of the San Antonio area is in store for a major upgrade.

The H-E-B plus! in Schertz just happens to be the last H-E-B you’ll hit when you’re leaving San Antonio on Interstate 35. Acting as a final pit stop before hitting New Braunfels and beyond, H-E-B is now planning to remodel the store’s existing fuel station in a $560,000 upgrade, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR).

H-E-B’s remodel will see the entire 1,500-square-foot fuel station demolished in order for a new one to be installed. Construction is expected to start on September 15 and is aiming to be completed by December 15, according to the TDLR. Those timelines are tentative as all TDLRs are subject to change without notice.

Drivers heading out of San Antonio will have to wait until they hit New Braunfels to make another stop at H-E-B or are lured into parking and shopping at Buc-ee’s. Perhaps H-E-B is hoping a new fuel station will entice drivers to fuel up and bypass the Hill Country hot spot entirely.
