LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Governor Greg Abbott has appointed longtime Assistant District Attorney Laura Beth Fossett as the new judge of the 137th District Court.
Fossett will fill the vacancy left by Judge Trey McClendon, who retired on August 7 after serving over the 137th District Court for nearly 16 years. She will serve the remainder of Judge McClendon’s term before starting her own full, elected term on January 1, 2027.
Fossett previously won the Republican primary for the seat and is running unopposed in the November general election.
Fossett has served as an assistant district attorney in the Lubbock Criminal District Attorney’s Office for the past 14 years.
“Lubbock County is home to me and my family, and I look forward to continuing my service to this community and honoring the trust and responsibility that comes with this office,” Fossett said.
Fossett also served as a prosecutor on Lubbock County’s Adult Drug Court team.
