A Phoenix man is jailed after police say he kidnapped and sexually assaulted a woman at gunpoint near a central Phoenix bus stop. Phoenix police say a couple was sitting at a bus stop near 28th Street and McDowell Road around 4:15 a.m. Aug. 1 when a man approached them with a gun and demanded money. After taking their money, investigators say the suspect forced the woman into a nearby parking lot and sexually assaulted her. Police say surveillance video captured the suspect with the victims and documented his movements after he fled. Detectives connected video from a nearby Circle K to Kenneth Calvin Smith II, police said. Smith was arrested Aug. 8 and booked on charges including armed robbery, sexual assault, kidnapping and aggravated assault.
