EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) – 4 P.M. UPDATE: A 40-acre wildfire in the Security-Widefield area forced evacuations Monday afternoon.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a report of a “large fire burning in a field” in the Security-Widefield area, north of Fountain Valley School, at 2:19 p.m.
Security Fire, the Fountain Fire Department and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office responded.
Residents in the area of Grinnell Boulevard and Wageman Drive were asked to evacuate just before 3 p.m. for the fire, which was burning near the 6200 block of Passing Sky Drive.

The evacuation order was lifted just before 3:30 p.m.
Students using District 3 Widefield bus transportation in the area were returned to their schools for parental pickup while the evacuation order was active.
Bradley Road was closed at Grinnell Boulevard and Goldfield Drive for the fire. At this time, all closures remain in effect, and there is no estimated time for the roads to reopen.
EPSCO said a majority of callers reported that the fire was started by lightning, but the official cause is still under investigation.
No structures were damaged, and no injuries were reported.
As of 4 p.m., the fire was reported to be under control. Fire crews plan to remain on scene, addressing hot spots.

El Paso County deputies say it is now safe to return to the area. In total, the City of Fountain Government estimated it burned on 40 acres.

Just before 3 p.m., the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPCSO) issued the alert for residents in the area of Grinnell Boulevard and Wageman Drive for a fire near the 6200 block of Passing Sky Drive.
Residents under the evacuation order are urged to evacuate now.

As of 2:53 p.m., the City of Fountain said the fire is estimated at 10 acres. Deputies said the fire is “rapidly growing.”
EPCSO said Bradley Road is currently closed at Grinnell Boulevard and Goldfield Drive.
EPCSO said students using District 3 Widefield bus transportation in the area will be returned to their schools for parental pickup.
