EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — The City of El Paso is progressing with its national search for a new director of Animal Services, as it is now looking for community involvement in the selection process.

According to the city, the position, which opened last week, will remain available until filled, with candidate interviews slated for early January 2026 to accommodate out-of-town applicants during the holiday season.

City Manager Dionne Mack highlighted the importance of community participation, stating, “As we search for the next leader of Animal Services, it is essential that the voices of our community help guide this process.”

Mack added that community feedback will shape priorities and ensure the selection of a director who can enhance animal welfare services in ways that resonate with El Paso residents.

To facilitate public input, the city plans to launch a community survey at the end of the month.

The survey will solicit residents’ opinions on the top priorities for the new director’s first 100 days, which will influence the department’s strategic direction and the selection process.

Additionally, the Animal Shelter Advisory Committee (ASAC) will be involved in candidate interviews, using insights from the community survey to guide their questions and evaluations.
