Republicans are racing to pull off the party’s first midterm convention in Dallas. They also have a sizable help-wanted list.
Their assignments will range from guiding attendees through security to helping out-of-town visitors find their hotels.
Volunteer forms have been posted on the Dallas 2026 GOP convention website, as well as on county party websites and social media platforms in Dallas, Denton and elsewhere.
The Republican Party said on the form that its work has long depended on dedicated volunteers committed to “ensuring that the next chapter of American history is defined by prosperity, strength and opportunity.”
People from across the country can apply, but local Republican organizations are making a particular push for North Texans.
Sarah Gardner, secretary of the Dallas County Young Republicans, called it a rare opportunity.
“It’s not often that we get a big convention like this that comes to Dallas. It feels like usually it’s everywhere but Texas,” Gardner said. “It’s a historic moment to get involved.”
It’s unclear what perks the volunteers may receive for their work.
The convention has been described as more like a rally and fundraiser than a traditional presidential nominating convention. It will have many of the trappings of a national political conventions but “delegates” won’t select candidates, vote for a policy platform or conduct party business.
Organizers are expecting more than 20,000 people each night, giving residents a chance to show off their city before a national audience.
States are taking different approaches to selecting attendees, from party applications and raffles to selling “delegate” ticket packages to donors and activists.
