SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs won’t have to wait long for a rematch with the team they eliminated on their way to the NBA Finals.
Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs will host Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Oklahoma City Thunder on Oct. 20, as part of NBC Sports’ opening-day tripleheader for the 2026-27 NBA season.
The game tips off at 8:30 p.m. CT at Frost Bank Center and will air nationally on News 4 and Peacock.
The matchup is being billed as “Game 8” after San Antonio defeated Oklahoma City in a dramatic seven-game Western Conference Finals last season, sending the Spurs to the NBA Finals for the first time in 12 years.
That series helped turn a matchup between two of the Western Conference’s youngest contenders into one of the NBA’s emerging rivalries.
It also puts two of the league’s biggest stars back on the same floor.
Wembanyama enters the season as the reigning NBA Defensive Player of the Year, while Gilgeous-Alexander is coming off his second consecutive NBA MVP award.
The Spurs and Thunder were also two of only three teams to win at least 60 games during the 2025-26 regular season.
The Spurs-Thunder showdown will close out a historic opening day for NBC. It will mark the first time a network has broadcast three NBA Tip-Off games in one day.
Boston and Detroit begin the tripleheader at 2 p.m. CT, followed by Philadelphia and defending NBA champion New York at 6 p.m. CT.
NBC Sports is expected to release its full 2026-27 NBA regular-season broadcast schedule on Thursday.
