LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The heat continues the South Plains and more on the way. However, there is a chance of showers on Thursday afternoon and evening.

Before the rain arrives, it will be hot with temperatures aiming for the century mark in Lubbock and communities along and east of the Caprock. Skies will remain mostly sunny with scattered clouds in the late afternoon.

The weather pattern of heat will continue from Wednesday into the weekend, but a few subtle changes in temperatures in the next few days. I expect Wednesday to likely be the hottest day of the week with temperatures at or above 100 degrees in the central and eastern South Plains.
It will remain near 100 degrees for the same area Thursday but there will be additional cloud cover and a slim chance of rain.
I’m counting on those two items to hopefully hold temperatures down by one or two degrees on Thursday and possibly Friday.
However, even with the clouds and rain chances Thursday and Friday afternoon highs will remain well above normal for this time of year.

For parents and students in Lubbock, the first day of school on Wednesday will be hot as daytime highs remain near 100 degrees.
